stavať impf (perfective postaviť or staviť)

1. (transitive) to build, to construct (to create any building or technical work)

   Synonyms: budovať, zostrojiť

   V meste stavajú nové obchodné centrum. ― They are building a new shopping center in the city.

2. (transitive) to stand up, to stack (to place into an upright position or specific arrangement)

   Synonyms: klásť, umiestňovať

   V kolkárni deti rady stavajú kolky. ― In the bowling alley, children like to set up the pins.

3. (transitive) to place, to put, to set (to put someone or something in a specific location or role)

   Synonym: zaraďovať

   Tréner ho v dôležitých zápasoch nestaval do základu. ― The coach didn't put him in the starting lineup in important games.
