Prakrit

Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit *हद्यति (*hadyati, passive) via analogy to forms like 𑀪𑀕𑁆𑀕 (bhagga, broken) ~ 𑀪𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀇 (bhajjaï, to break), itself from the root हद् (had), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰed- (to defecate). Compare the attested verb Sanskrit हदति (hadati), and Ancient Greek χέζω (khézō).

    Verb

    *𑀳𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀇 (*haggaï) (Devanagari *हग्गइ) (intransitive) (Proto-New Indo-Aryan)[1]

    1. to defecate
