1. Marks a first person duoplural subject

   ‎iid- + ‎yicha (“he/she is crying”) → ‎yiicha (“we are crying”)

   ‎iid- + ‎yiwod (“he/she is swaying, rocking”) → ‎yiiʼwod (“we are swaying, rocking”)

   ‎iid- + ‎yiʼaah (“he/she is moving a solid roundish object”) → ‎yiitʼaah (“we are swaying, rocking”)

• When not preceded by another prefix, the peg element y- must be inserted in order to form a phonotactically permissible Navajo syllable.
• The final d of the prefix triggers d-effect. When followed by the ł-classifier, this manifests as the voicing of the classifier to l-. When used with the ∅-classifier, the d becomes a glottal stop before a nasal or approximant and /t/ before a glottal stop, triggers affrication of /l/ to /dɮ/, /z/ to /dz/, and /ʒ/ to /dʒ/, and is lost before voiceless consonants.
