     Lùbào shēng yú Āfēilìjiā xī míng zhīlāfū rú dì-sìshíwǔ tú qí xíng lèi lù qí wén sì bào gù míng lùbào qí jǐng zuì cháng jǔ tóu zhì zú gāo yuē yī zhàng bā chǐ xǔ qiántuǐ shèn cháng hòutuǐ shèn duǎn [Pinyin]

     The camelopard lives in Africa. Its Western name is "giraffe". It is illustrated in Figure 45. Its figure is like the deer, and its spots resembles the leopard. Thus it is named camelopard (literally, “deer-leopard”). Its neck is the longest, one zhang and eight chi tall from head to toe. Its fore legs are long, while its hind legs are short.

     Lùbào de jǐngzi wèishénme zhèyàng cháng, kěyǐ jiǎng yī piān shìwù qǐyuán de tónghuà, yě kěyǐ jiǎng yī piān jìnhuàlùn de zìrán gùshi; huǒ cóng nǎlǐ lái, kěyǐ jiǎng shénhuà shàng de Suìrén, yě kěyǐ jiǎng rénlèixué shàng de huǒshí qǐyuán. [Pinyin]

     Why is the neck of the giraffe so long? We could tell a fairy tale about the origin of everything, or we could tell a natural story of evolution. Where does fire come from? We could tell of the mythological Suiren, or we could tell of the anthropological origin of cooking with fire.
