Etymology 1
May be an orthographic borrowing from Chinese 大笑 (dàxiào). Alternatively, derived by applying the expected on'yomi to the characters used to spell native Japanese-derived term 大笑い (ōwarai). First cited in Japanese with this reading in 1584.[1]
