From Proto-Indo-European *dreh₂- (to run);[1] compare Ancient Greek ἀποδιδράσκω (apodidráskō, to depart secretly, escape),[2] as well as Proto-Germanic *trudaną (to tread).[3] See also द्रु (dru, to run, flee).
