ya- (up or down, vertically) + -yi- (semelfactive, punctual) + ∅- (3rd person subject prefix) + -l- (classifier)-kaal (neuter imperfective stem of root -KÁÁL, “to spread”)

  1. it sticks up into the air (as a cat's tail)
  2. it shoots up into the air in a column (as water from a fountain)
