Variant of 𑀤𑀝𑁆𑀞 (daṭṭha) with retroflex assimilation, from Sanskrit दष्ट (daṣṭa, “stung”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *daćtás, from Proto-Indo-European *dn̥ḱ-tó-s, from *denḱ-. Descendants are verbalized, have non-regular *-𑀝𑁆𑀝- (*-ṭṭa-) < -𑀝𑁆𑀞- (-ṭṭha-), and some have spontaneous nasalization by influence from the descendants of 𑀟𑀁𑀲𑀇 (ḍaṃsaï, “to bite”). Cognate with Pali 𑀟𑀝𑁆𑀞 (ḍaṭṭha).
