稲架

Cognate with the root of 挟む (hasamu, “to pinch / catch / hold between”),^[1][2] likely from the way that the rice-stalk bundles are placed over the horizontal pole such that the pole is sandwiched or pinched in the middle of the bundles.

Although the root is phonetically attested since at least 720 (see 狭間 (hazama)),^[1] this noun is attested quite late in 1887.^[1]

Also recorded with the pronunciation haza in some variants.^[1][2][3][4]
