Etymology 1

From the (れん)(たい)(けい) (rentaikei, attributive form) of Early Middle Japanese adjective (ふか) (fukashi), with the medial /-k-/ falling out. From Old Japanese. First attested in the Kojiki of 712 CE.[1] From Proto-Japonic *puka.
