Etymology
The second component is 焼き (yaki, “grilled or cooked food”), the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 焼く (yaku, “to burn, to grill”). The suki component is uncertain, though some posit 鋤 (suki, “spade”) or 剥き身 (sukimi, “thinly sliced meat”).
