Etymology 1

    Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *pokay. Cognate with Kannada ಹೊಗೆ (hoge), Malayalam പുക (puka), Telugu పొగ (poga), Sholaga ಅಗ (aga). Possibly related to புகு (puku).[2]
