Etymology

    Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘰𑘽𑘚𑘜𑘹 (sāṃḍaṇe), from Prakrit 𑀙𑀁𑀟𑀇 (chaṃḍaï), from Sanskrit छृणत्ति ~ छृन्दन्ति (chṛṇatti ~ chṛndanti), possibly from Proto-Indo-Iranian *(š)ćr̥nátˢti ~ *(š)ćr̥ndanti. Cognate with Gujarati છાંડવું (chā̃ḍvũ), Hindustani چَھان٘ڈْنَا (chā̃ḍnā) / छाँड़ना (chā̃ṛnā), Sindhi ڇَنڊَڻُ (chãḍaṇu) / छंडणु. Related to Punjabi ਛੱਡਣਾ (chaḍḍaṇā) / چھڈّݨا (chḍḍṇā).
