From वैताग (vaitāg, from a vṛddhi derivative of Sanskrit वि (vi) + त्याग (tyāga)) +‎ -णे (-ṇe). First attested as Old Marathi 𑘪𑘧𑘲𑘝𑘰𑘐𑘜𑘹 (vayītāgaṇe).
