    Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘟𑘰𑘘𑘜𑘹 (dāṭaṇe), from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *𑀤𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (*daṭṭaï), from Proto-Middle Indo-Aryan *𑀤𑁆𑀭𑀝𑁆𑀬𑀢𑁂 (*draṭyate), from *𑀤𑁆𑀭𑀝𑁆 (*draṭ). Compare Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀤𑀝𑁆𑀝 (saṃdaṭṭa), 𑀲𑀁𑀤𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀬 (saṃdaṭṭaya). Related to दाट (dāṭ), दडणे (daḍṇe), दडा (daḍā), दडपणे (daḍapṇe).
