Teams
Consistent with conference tie-ins, the game will feature teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Big Ten Conference.
The 6–6 Penn State Nittany Lions and the 7–5 Clemson Tigers will face off in a match of preseason favorites; Penn State was ranked #2 with 23 first place votes in the preseason AP poll rankings, while Clemson was #4 with four first place votes.[3] Scott Dochterman of The Athletic dubbed the matchup "The Disappointment Bowl".[4] Bill Connelly of ESPN.com quipped, "at least Dabo Swinney is a Yankees fan,"[5] in reference to the bowl's venue being the home ballpark of the New York Yankees.
