Inherited from Proto-Berber, from Latin pascha (“pascha, passover”), ultimately from Biblical Hebrew פֶּסַח (pésaḥ).

Cognate with Central Atlas Tamazight tafaska (“month of the Eid Al Adha”), Northern Saharan Berber tfaska (“major religious celebration”), Tuareg tăfăske (“sacrifice”), Nefusa tfaskâ (“feast”), and Ghadames tafaṣka (“relegious feast”).
