From Old Irish laigid,[1] from Proto-Celtic *legeti, from Proto-Indo-European *legʰ-.[2] Cognate with Gothic 𐌻𐌹𐌲𐌰𐌽 (ligan) and Old Church Slavonic лежати (ležati).
