Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀢𑀺 (*aṭṭati, “to contain”),[1] possibly from Sanskrit आर्त॑ (ā́rta), from आ- (ā-) + possibly अर्द् (ard) + possibly ऋ (ṛ) + -त (-ta). Cognate with Palula aṭíi, Prakrit *𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (*aṭṭaï).
