Etymology
Cognate with Lithuanian áusčioti (“to gossip, to talk nonsense”), Latvian aũšât (“to chatter”).
Synchronically, probably denominal[1] from *usta (“mouth”) + *-iti, although the prosody does not technically match (the verb has a fixed acute intonation, while the noun is circumflex).
