    Etymology 2

      From an adjective *warnás < *warwás (“black”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wer- (“to burn”), the same source as *wárˀnāˀ (“crow”). Cognate with Tocharian B wrauña (“crow”), possibly Proto-Celtic *branos (“crow, raven”).
