Etymology
From Pre-Proto-Athabaskan *te.[1] Cognate with Eyak te, Tlingit tá, all of which are from Proto-Na-Dene *teˑ. Vajda reconstructs a Proto-Yeniseian form *-tej (“to lie”), which he posits is cognate with this root.[2]
