Proto-Athabaskan
Etymology
Young and Morgan claim the Navajo cognate is related to atéél (“front of the body”), from the root -TEEL, from *te̓l (“to be broad”). However, according to Kari, this noun is from the root *teˑ, a classificatory stem for animate nouns, which also refers to breadth.
Regardless, contains the possessed noun suffix *-əʔ.
