Etymology

From അവർ (avaṟ, they). As a suffix, it converts a relative participle into a plural or honorific pronominal noun.

Syntactic Roles

Like the singular forms, it can represent the subject or the object:

  • As Subject (The Doers):
  1. സത്യം പറയുന്നവർ ആരെയും ഭയപ്പെടില്ല.
    satyaṁ paṟayunnavaṟ āreyuṁ bhayappeṭilla.
    Those who speak (subject) the truth will not fear anyone.
  • As Object (The Receivers):
  1. നീ കണ്ടവർ ആരെല്ലാമാണ്?
    kaṇṭavaṟ ārellāmāṇŭ?
    Who are all the people [whom] you saw (object)?
