Etymology 1
From collective numerals suffix of Proto-Slavic *-er or *-or, which probably separated from stems of *četyr- /*četver- (*četvor-) /*četvьr- (чотири (čotyry)/четверо (četvero)/четвертий (četvertyj)) with further application to other numerals.
