1. (rare) Marks the genitive case in the hidden-n declension after a front vowel stem ending in ь (ʹ) or и (i) (which is supplanted).

This suffix is only marginally attested with the noun бэйкери (bejkeri, “bakery”), which is more commonly inflected in the regular declension, but sometimes also in the hidden-n declension.

• -ын (-yn), -ийн (-iin), -ы (-y), -ий (-ii), -н (-n), -ны (-ny), -ний (-nii), -ины (-iny), -гийн (-giin)

From -ина (-yna) + -ий (-yj). Compare Russian -иный (-inyj), Polish -iny.

-и́ний • (-ýnyj) m (alternative -їний, feminine -ина)

1. adjective-forming suffix, added to nouns denoting animals, typically forming relational adjectives

   Synonym: -ячий (-jačyj)

   ‎гусь (husʹ, “goose”) + ‎-и́ний (-ýnyj) → ‎гуси́ний (husýnyj, “(relational) goose”)

   ‎змій (zmij, “snake”) + ‎-їний (-jinyj) → ‎зміїний (zmijinyj, “(relational) snake; serpentine, snake's”)

   ‎мураха (muraxa, “ant”) + ‎-и́ний (-ýnyj) → ‎мураши́ний (murašýnyj, “(relational) ant; antlike”)

Note the following properties:

• The suffix is always stressed.
• The suffix triggers the Slavic first palatalization when added to a stem ending in a velar (г к х) or in ц.
• The suffix is added onto the stem in its reduced form.
