𑀣𑀟𑁆𑀠

Prakrit

Etymology

From 𑀣𑀤𑁆𑀥 (thaddha) with unexpected retroflexion, ultimately from Sanskrit स्तब्ध (stabdha, fixed).

The semantic development went from "firm" to "sluggish" to "cold". Descendants of *𑀣𑀁𑀠 (*thaṃḍha) with spontaneous nasalization are via semantic and phonetic influence from Proto-Dravidian *taṇ (cool, cold).
