Etymology
The regular classical negative form of verb 知る (shiru, “to know”), formed by conjugating the verb into the 未然形 (mizenkei, “irrealis or incomplete form”) of 知ら- (shira-) and adding the negation auxiliary -ず (zu).

- As an affix, the resulting term usually has a downstep after the shi in shirazu.
