振り

From Old Japanese.

The 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 振(ふ)る (furu, “to swing”).

振(ふ)り • (furi) 

1. swing
2. (after a verb) false pretense; pretending

   聞(き)こえないふりをする

   kikoenai furi o suru

   to pretend to be unable to hear something

   家(いえ)に帰(かえ)ると妻(つま)が必(かなら)ず死(し)んだふりをしています。

   Ie ni kaeru to tsuma ga kanarazu shinda furi o shite imasu.

   When I return home, my wife always plays dead.
