Etymology

From Sanskrit โสม (soma, soma plant; a kind of boiled vine from Vedic India, made from the plant soma, drunk as medicine and offered to gods; also associated with the moon after the Vedic period). Cognate with Old Khmer soma°; Modern Khmer សោម (saom).
