    Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘠𑘨𑘜𑘹 / धरणे (dharaṇe), from Prakrit 𑀥𑀭𑀇 (dharaï), from Sanskrit धर॑ति (dhárati), from धृ (dhṛ), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰar-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰer-. Cognate with Konkani धर्चे (dharce), Hindi धरना (dharnā).
