Etymology
Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *दाद्द (dādda) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from onomatopoeic nursery reduplication. Cognate with Assamese দাদা (dada), Bengali দাদা (dada), Gujarati દાદો (dādo), Marathi दादा (dādā), Nepali दाइ (dāi), and Punjabi ਦਾਦਾ (dādā). Compare Sanskrit तात (tātá, “a father; a term of affection to a junior or senior”).
