    With Grassman's Law in New Indo-Aryan from ठंढा (ṭhaṇḍhā), which is from Prakrit *ठंढ (ṭhaṃḍha, cold) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), which is from Prakrit ठड्ढ (ṭhaḍḍha, cold, stiff) with contamination of -ṇ- from a derivative of Proto-Dravidian *taṇ (cold). Ultimately from Sanskrit स्तब्ध (stabdha). Doublet of स्तब्ध (stabdh), ठाढ़ा (ṭhāṛhā), and ठड्डा (ṭhaḍḍā). Cognate with Kashmiri थंड् (thaṃḍ), Punjabi ਠੰਢ / ٹھنڈھ (ṭhaṇḍha), Nepali ठण्डा (ṭhaṇḍā), Gujarati ઠંડું (ṭhaṇḍũ), Bengali ঠান্ডা (ṭhanḍa), Odia ଠଣ୍ଡା (ṭhaṇḍā), Bhojpuri ठण्ढा (ṭhaṇḍhā), Marathi थंड (thaṇḍa), Sindhi ٿَڌ / थध (thadh).
