    Sanskritization of a vernacular form of ग्रथ् (grath), ग्रन्थ् (granth, to arrange, string together), via a series of sound changes ग्रथ् (grath) > *गठ् (*gaṭh) > घट् (ghaṭ), with a metathesis of the aspiration.[1][2]
