Inherited from Proto-Ketic *ʌtsenqoː (hunt, infinitive verb),[1] derived from Proto-Ketic *ʌtseˤλ (wild animal) + Proto-Yeniseian *qaɢʌ (kill, hunt, verb base).

Alternatively, analyzable as a compound of ассель (ásselʲ, wild animal) +‎ ӄо (qóò, hunting, killing, action nominal)
