2024–25 Cignal Super Spikers (women) season
The 2024–25 Cignal Super Spikers season is the 13th season of the Cignal Super Spikers women's team and fifth in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). The team was known as the Cignal HD Spikers before renaming in the Reinforced Conference.
Season summary
The off-season saw many roster changes for the then-Cignal HD Spikers. The departures are among the most notable as Angelique Dionela, who was with the team since the franchise's inception in 2013, moved to the Farm Fresh Foxies. Rachel Daquis and Anngela Nunag, who both took a pause from volleyball in 2024, departed for Farm Fresh and the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles, respectively.
The HD Spikers started the All-Filipino Conference strong with a four-match winning streak. They then fell into a slump, only going 1–3 in their next four matches before proceeding to finish the preliminary round with three consecutive wins. The team finished third with an 8–3 record and 25 points. In the qualifying round, the team suffered an upset against the 10th-seeded Galeries Tower Highrisers, thus putting Cignal in the play-in tournament. Drawn into Pool A, Cignal first beat the Capital1 Solar Spikers but lost to Zus Coffee in a close five-set match. After the Thunderbelles' four-set win over Capital1, Cignal was eliminated from final round contention.[1]
More roster changes were made ahead of the preseason PVL on Tour with Heather Guino-o and Tin Tiamzon joining the team while Frances Molina and Ria Meneses made their departures. Cignal topped Pool B with a 4–1 record and 12 points, giving them a direct berth into the final round. They would sweep Akari in the quarterfinals, but lose to the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the semifinals. In the third-place match, they were swept by the Creamline Cool Smashers.[2]
By reaching the semifinals of the PVL on Tour, Cignal qualified for the Invitational Conference. The team didn't perform well in the Invitational, finishing in 5th place with a 1–4 record and accruing four points, not making it through to the final round.[3]
For the Reinforced Conference, the renamed Super Spikers signed Greek Eva Chantava as their foreign guest player, but was replaced by Slovakian player Katrin Trebichavská after two matches.[4][5]
