Borrowed from Czech vzduch, from Russian воздух (vozdux), from Old Church Slavonic въздоухъ (vŭzduxŭ), from Proto-Slavic *vъzduxъ. First attested in the 19th century. Displaced the original povetrie as the neutral term for “air”.[1]
