    Sino-Vietnamese word from 尾琴, composed of (tail) and (string instrument), referring to the fact that the ribbon of the bow is traditional made from horsetail hair. In modern Vietnamese, is also the word for "bow".

    Probably also a phono-semantic matching with French violon.
