From Runic ᚢᚱᛘᛦ (urmʀ), from Proto-Norse *ᚢᚱᛗᛁᛉ (*urmiʀ), Proto-Germanic *wurmiz, from Proto-Indo-European *wr̥mis. Compare Old High German and Old Saxon wurm, Old English wyrm, Gothic 𐍅𐌰𐌿𐍂𐌼𐍃 (waurms).
