Etymology
From Proto-West Germanic *hlahhjan, either through an unrecorded Old Frisian form or otherwise via Middle Low German lachen. The usual Old Frisian verb was hlakkia, from Proto-Germanic *hlakkōną, which is continued in West Frisian laitsje and Mainland North Frisian lååke. The Saterfrisian form corresponds to Insular North Frisian laache, lachi.
