Etymology

    Sino-Vietnamese word from (gold; metal) and (kind), probably a further sinicization of the now obsolete compound loài kim (metals).

    The Sino-Vietnamese equivalent of Chinese 金屬 / 金属 (jīnshǔ), Japanese 金属 (kinzoku), Korean 금속 (geumsok), *kim thuộc, is not used.
