Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀔𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀢𑀺 (*khojjati, “to seek”),[1] denominal verb from *𑀔𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀚 (*khojja, “footprint”), possibly from Sanskrit क्षोद्य (kṣodya, “(that which is) to be trampled or stepped upon”), from क्षुद् (kṣud, “crush”) + -य (-ya). Cognate with Palula khooǰóo.
