    1. to clear, to cross (a line), to pass (an obstacle etc.); to get over (a fence)
      Des milliers de camions franchissent la frontière chaque jour.
      Thousands of trucks cross the border every day.
    2. to cover (a distance)

    Conjugation

    This is a regular verb of the second conjugation, like finir, choisir, and most other verbs with infinitives ending in -ir. One salient feature of this conjugation is the repeated appearance of the infix -iss-.
