ausführen (weak, third-person singular present führt aus, past tense führte aus, past participle ausgeführt, auxiliary haben) (usually transitive)

  1. to take out, to take or lead outside
    1. to take (a pet, especially a dog) for a walk
      Synonyms: (both informal) rausgehen (mit), Gassi gehen (mit)
      Heute früh habe ich meinen Hund ausgeführt.
      I took my dog for a walk this morning.
    2. (chiefly dated) to take (people, especially a woman) to a restaurant, on a date etc.

Usage notes

  • In the senses under 2, the verbal noun is Ausführung. In sense 1.3 (“export”), it is Ausfuhr. Senses 1.1 and 1.2 have no verbal noun except for the gerund Ausführen, which can of course be used in all senses.
