aɣaras
Tashelhit
Etymology
Inherited from Medieval Tashelhit اَغَرَسْ (aɣaras, “path, way”)[1], a verbal noun of Medieval Tashelhit غرس (ɣrǝs, “to cut, to slaughter”), from Proto-Berber *ăɣrəs (“to cut, to slaughter”).
Compare the phrasal verb bbi uɣaras (“cross the road (lit. cut the road)”), Tawellemmet and Tayert ǝɣrǝs (“to cut, to cross”), Tetserret aɣrəs (“to cross, to go across”), and Zenaga täʷrǝS (“road, rule”).
