Etymology

One of several Proto-Siouan terms for “one”, alongside *nǫ-/*rǫ-. In descendant languages, the form appears either as *wį or *wą, the latter resulting from metathesis of the second syllable (*wį(y)ą > *wą(y)į).[1]
