Proto-Celtic

Etymology

Unknown. Likely borrowed from a non-Indo-European substrate language.[1] Bezzenberger derives from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker- (to bend), comparing Ancient Greek κυρτός (kurtós, bent), κορώνη (korṓnē), and Latin curvus and writing that the semantic extension parallels Latin rotundus (round) from rota (wheel), but the origins of these words themselves have not been decisively resolved.[2]
