Etymology

Cognate with Eyak ta (a rigid object is situated) and Tlingit tan (a wooden or bone object is situated). Derived from Proto-Na-Dene *tan, and according to Vajda cognate with a Proto-Yeniseian form *ta ~ tan (a tree/pole stands rigid).
