Etymology
Unknown. Part of the Indo-Aryan "defective" group of words. Related to *𑀮𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*luṭṭa, “lump”), 𑀮𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀼𑀅 (laḍḍua, “lump”). Came to mean "corpse" in many descendants (perhaps by euphemism), for which compare Hindi लोथड़ा (lothṛā, “lump of flesh”).
