Prakrit
Etymology
Etymology tree
Probably inherited from Sanskrit प्रचष्टे (pracaṣṭe, “to tell; consider”), undergoing thematisation (compare प्रचक्षते (pracakṣate, 3pl.pres)) and the same unexpected lenition as in 𑀘𑀸𑀳𑀇 (cāhaï). By surface analysis, 𑀧- (pa-) + 𑀘𑀸𑀳𑀇 (cāhaï, “to want”).
Verb
*𑀧𑀘𑀸𑀳𑀇 (*pacāhaï) (Devanagari *पचाहइ) (Proto-New Indo-Aryan)[1]
